About the Torn Collection

The durability, permanence, and structural capabilities of metal are a few of its most desirable qualities. Its strength, though, is also a source of vulnerability. As metal is worked, its molecular structure is compacted, causing it to become brittle and then to fracture. The series, Torn, engages with this duality. Seth uses metal for its durability and illustrates its vulnerability through cracked and torn edges and surfaces. Through a process of cold rolling metal ingots, textural sheets of metal are created, which are then contrasted against minimal, geometric forms. These sensitive jewelry compositions highlight the expressive qualities of the torn metal, and mirror the duality of strength and vulnerability found in the jewelry wearer.
